Forest Bathing – Nature Immersion – Deep Listening – A Retreat from SDI (with me!)

We know being in nature is good for us, on many levels. When we go into nature, we encounter life on a different level of being – simpler and yet richer. The constant chatter of our minds is slowed. Our senses are awakened. The air we breath is fragranced with the scents of pine needles and the loam of the soil. Our ears are caressed by the sound of the breeze as it flutters through the leaves and the branches. Our feet feel connected to energies arising from the earth, waiting for us to make and receive that connection. Our fingers lightly sweep across the soft fir needles along the…

A Conversation with Rabbi Rami Shapiro – Listen

If you’ve read any of Rabbi Rami Shapiro’s books or listened to his own podcast for Spirituality & Health Magazine, you know he engages spirituality with deep reverence and humorous wit. Both “sage” and “trickster”, he invites us to examine our beliefs and our spiritual practices with open hearts, so that we can better companion others on their spiritual journeys. Usually, we say, “fine, thanks.” We probably share something about our job, or relate a short story about something that happened to you in the past few days. Something about the weather. When I ask, “how are you?” – I want to know what’s on your heart. What truly matters for you? These are the kinds of heart-awakening questions I like to listen for: What’s stirring for you? Where are you dissatisfied? What do you long for? What do you hope for? Do you have any big…

We at SDI were pretty thrilled to see this article published on spiritual companionship in the New York Times. Our Executive Director was quoted extensively, and I play a small role in this article (Towards the end of the article, I am the “friend who was training to be a spiritual director” LOL): Faith is Hard to Define.
